Meet the team
Institut de Ciències del Cosmos – Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya
The Institut de Ciències del Cosmos of the Universitat de Barcelona / Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya team is composed by astrophysicist and engineers. They have been working in light pollution from more than two decades ago, both in measurement campaigns and modelling. The team regularly contributes to the measurement’s campaigns for the Generalitat de Catalunya, with the aim of elaborate the map of the night sky brightness in Catalunya. They have developed GAMBONS, a model for the natural sky brightness used in the Gaia4Sustainability project. The team have also experience in the use of models of the propagation of light through the atmosphere, a crucial point to understand how the different lighting technologies contributes to the light pollution.
Parc Astronòmic Montsec
The Parc Astronòmic Montsec team is composed by astrophysicist and technicians. This team have been working in light pollution for more than ten years as staff of Parc Astronòmic and as part of the Universitat de Barcelona from more than twenty years. The main research topic is linked to measurement and instrumentation actions with special interest in environmental elements that could disturb the evaluation of night sky. This team has developed in cooperation with Generalitat de Catalunya and Universitat de Barcelona the very first map of Light Pollution quality of Catalonia. Additionally this team has experience in EU funded cooperation projects related to night sky quality and artificial light at night.
